Chicago is on fire again; the whole city is burning up on all fronts. Chicago is on top of everything; Cubs, White Sox, Bulls (on top of the draft) Kayne West is on top of the Rap Charts (I’m sorry lil’ Wayne ill call you the best rapper when you prove it on your OWN songs, and when you release those hundreds of “hits” you have recorded till then Kayne sits on the throne) Chicago is a finalist for the 2016 Olympic games and Barack Obama is leading the presidential polls. The Windy City is blowing the competition away on the field and in all professional fields.
On the south side the Sox are on top of the AL central that everyone in the world was anointing the Tigers champs. In my eyes there is only one obstacle in the Sox road to the playoffs and that is Ozzie Guillen. I love the man he is the Bobby Knight of the diamond, his press conferences sound like deleted scenes from Scarface; however his in game managing has been questionable over his career. But this is the same guy earlier this year could’ve gotten axed for several reasons such as an incident with blow up dolls and backstabbing his GM. His North-side counterpart Lou Pinella is doing his best Moses impression; leading his followers out of Bondage of a 100 year curse filled with goats, black cats, and a wicked man named Bartman to the promised land of a World Championship.
The Bulls had an odd season to say the least. Hopes were high some people felt that the Bulls could win the central division and make it to the eastern conference finals. This did not happen. Chicago found them selves at the bottom of the NBA weakest conference (Yes I know Boston plays in the East and they did win the title; but come on ever Stevie Wonder can see the West is a clearly better Conference) and this led them to the NBA’s city of eternal hope Secaucus NJ for the Draft lottery. And with JUST a 1.7% chance of winning the Bulls get the number one pick. They could draft a native son of The City of Big Shoulders named Rose. I hate Hype and projecting rookies in any sport however Derrick Rose is being compared to Chris Paul; normally lottery teams tent to end up back in the lottery (ex. Knicks, Bucks, Bobcats, Sonics) however occasionally a player is drafted and makes an instant impact. Look at Kobe, Garnett, Lebron, and Chris Paul these were all players who as rookies were looked upon to carry there team. Rose can do that and then some. What I love about this 6’3” point guard is that he played at Memphis; he ran a very complex variation of the Princeton offense with great scorers and he was able to feed them and still get his points.
I know it its late June but if we fast forward to the middle of September and both teams are still leading their division it could be a very interesting October/November for the Midway. Sox, Cubs, the Bulls with a first overall pick, the Bears improving due to the release of Cedric Benson (DISCLAIMER I do not believe in “addition by subtraction” but they have to improve without Mr. DUI. He has been a bust since day one. I bought into all his hype when he played for the Longhorns and now I am repenting for my sins) the Blackhawk’s who when they had Chelios, Belfour, Roneck, Tony Amonte and a young Hasek all at the same time still couldn’t win the Cup. But not all is lost the ‘hawks have the Reingining rooke of the year and no where to go but up. The last time Chicago was this hot it was 1871.
