Tonight will be the event everyone has been waiting for the past few days. The 79th all star game, and the last ever in the legendary Yankee Stadium. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to experience Yankee Stadium a few times, including great seats with the greatest rivalry in sports, Yankees - Red Socks. This museum of baseball history is coming to a close soon, and the city and America has cherished it by having the All star Game held in New York. Tonight’s game will go to another level if the AL is up in the 9th and Mariano comes in for the close.
Last nights events in the stadium was a memory in itself, all of New York chanting Hamilton as he smashed them one after another over the fence. It was unbelievable to watch as he attempted to put one out of the park. The crowd was electric with each deep hit, the benches were cleared and suddenly all the players surrounded home plate to watch this event. (But the crowd always has energy to boo Big Papi as he walked into the dugout over home plate). It was the most exciting derby I have ever seen, and he embarrassed Bobby Abreu’s record just because of the distance these balls were going.
I look forward to tonights game and I know it will soon be a memory for New York, but business is business and the time for a new stadium was bound to be soon.
