Chargers star linebacker Shawne Merriman has reported torn ligaments in his knee that could keep him out for the season. With a torn posterior cruciate ligament, things aren’t looking to good. Merriman is already coming off of surgery about 5 months ago to repair cartilage.

If Merriman chooses surgery over playing through the pain, do not expect to see him on the field this year. Any surgery of the knee is a tough road to recovery in the NFL. It’s no easy task.

As for the Chargers defensively, this is a huge blow for the team. Losing the league’s leader in sacks since 2005 (39 1/2). Expect Marques Harris to compete for the OLB position if Merriman is not ready.

He has tears in both his PCL and LCL…and he is leaning towards trying to play this season…he said that his priority is to play this season…even though multiple doctors have said that to play this season would be to risk a career ending injury
