According to a recent Forbes survey – Mr. Met was chosen America’s favorite sports mascot of 2012… this cant be serious.
You have got to be kidding me that Mr. Met beats the Phillie Phanatic, in my opinion the greatest mascot sports has ever seen. Forbes survey was based off of the influence on the team brand, likeability, and breakthrough.
To sum that up…
1) represent the franchise and its brand
2) entertain the audience
3) increase team marketability, appearances and tv
I give Mr. Met credit that he has an advantage over the Phillie Phanatic for the fact that he is more representative of baseball… Although all he is doing is a wearing a giant baseball on his head with a mets jersey.. Other then those two things I cannot find one single thing that would ever cause any interest to him, let alone make him the greatest mascot in sports…
Has he been lady gaga? NOOOO Try to get David Wright Arrested?? NOOO
Does he zipline? NOOOO
Does he skydive? NOOO Parachute? NOOOO
Flash people? NOO Battle Darth Vader?? NOOO
And the list continues to go on and on and on… Mr. Met does nothing at all. I think it is fair to agree that this award undeservingly was given to Mr. Met… and the Phillie Phanatic is the true mascot to deserve this.
