Congratulations Mike Vanderjagt. You broke one of the cardinal rules of teaching, that is, don’t strangle your students. According to the Naples Dailey News, Vanderjagt did just that when he grabbed one of his middle school students by the throat after the student taunted him about missing the game tying field goal in the January 2006 playoff game vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to the report, the student rolled up a piece of poster board into a makeshift mega-phone and began yelling “Wide left, wide left,” at substitute Mike Vanderjagt. Vanderjagt, who in 2003 became the first kicker to ever kick a perfect season, denied these reports, claiming he “never choked the student” and that he simply “held him in place while reprimanding him” well I think the obvious question in this case is; Hey Mike, did you hold him in place by the throat? Ok, cause that’s the same thing as choking. Let’s face it, when Peyton Manning calls you an idiot, you’re probably and Idiot. Also, it should be noted that Vanderjagt actually missed that big field goal wide right a clear indication that America is not on the path to getting smarter.
