The patriots just released Chad Ochocinco or Chad Johnson or whatever he is going by these days. It’s been rumored he was on his way out since the pats signed Brandon Lloyd and a whole mess of other wide receivers in the off season. Chad Ochocinco is 34 and still possibly has some left in the tank. Here are my predictions as spots where Ochocinco could end up
The Buffalo Bills
The Bills are looking for someone to go opposite of Steve Johnson. The Bills will probably go with a spread offense this year under Chan Gailey. Ochocinco played last year for the patriots who have been tops of the AFC East for as long as any current Bills player can remember. The Bills would love to sign a guy who knows the pats offense and could give them an edge. They tried it with TO a few years ago and their new management could want to try it again.
The Carolina Panthers
Carolina will be hard pressed to win the NFC South with the falcons and saints still looming big. Cam Newton has shown he is great on the run but the signing of mike Tolbert seems to make 3 solid runners in the back field which means they are trying to save Newton’s body from all the pounding. The problem is they are seriously lacking in the pass catcher department. Steve smith has been a staple in Carolina for years but they have never given him a partner on the other side of the field. Now there could be an ego clash if the bring in Ochocinco but they just might give it a shot and try to capitalize on the instability of the saints coaching and make a run at the NFC south crown
New York jet
The jets seemingly will bring in anyone. The Plax experience last year seemed to work out last year and Rex Ryan may see this as a way to bring some of that magic back. Plus he loves any chance to stick it to New England and if bringing in Ochocinco in can win him the division he will make a push for it with the front office guys.
Miami dolphins
With the departure of Brandon Marshall they are lacking a true number 1 WR. I don’t think Devon Bees or Brian Hartlin will cut it. Despite who the starter is in Miami they could benefit from a veteran guy like Ochocinco. Unlike T.O. he is generally a good team mate and sticks up for his quarterback. Plus his elaborate touchdown celebrations would be just the right thing for the Miami area
UPDATE: Ocho Cinco has signed with the Dolphins, just so its clear that most major sites had him pegged for Jacksonville.
Washington redskins
The redskins gave up a lot to draft Robert Griffin III and need to surround him with talent. Santa Moss, Josh Morgan and Pierre Garcon are talented but Ochocinco would open up a lot of room and bring a little more spark to the redskins that they have been missing. Ochocinco has never been out of the AFC so tis may be the change he need. He could instantly be the main target for their new QB. The redskins are not afraid of spending money not that Ochocinco will cost a ton.
